  Notes	William appears to be residing on the land that his father, Adam Wentz (Vance), purchased from the Holsopple's in 1802. An indenture dated, September 1834; between Henry Vance and wife; Catharina Kyle and her husband; and Philip Vance and wife; to William Vance; in consideration for $1, paid to each of them, released their rights/claim to the land belonging to the heirs of Adam Vance, dec'd; the tract of land is in Monroe Co., on Carpenter's Run joining the lands of Philip Holsapple and others. (This being land that was originally purchased by said Adam Wantz (Vance) dec'd. in 1802). In August 1842 William Vance conveys to Robert C. Birdell, for $1 and also the undivided interest of 5/8's in sd. William's 119 acre tract of land in said county; for payment of debts owed by said William to Samuel Hamilton and James W. Nickell, the sum of $52.75 and also to Isaac Nickell, the sum of $33, plus interest. The said tract of land is where William Vance now resides and adjoins the lands of Alex Jackson and Philip Holsapple, on Carpenter's Run, a branch of Second Creek; along with some personal property. Per the agreement, William is to remain in "peasable possession" of said real and personal properties until the first day of July 1843; if at this time the debts remain unpaid, sd. Robert C. Birdell, may then sell the above listed properties to the highest bidder. After all debts are paid, including cost of this sd. deed, any remaining monies should be paid to said William Vance. William signs his name as "William Wantz". This deed of trust was assigned to Alexander Jackson for the value received on 16 March, 1846. (Note that an Adam Vance also performs almost the same identical transaction) In July, 1845 an indenture was made between William Vance & Jane his wife and Sally Vance, wife of Philip Vance of the one part and Alexander Jackson, of the other part. For the consideration sum of $1, paid to each of them by sd. Alexander Jackson, a tract of land containing 74+ acres, in Monroe Co. This said tract is part of land that formerly belonged to heirs of Adam Vance. The signature of William Vance is marked by an "x". 1840 (W)VA Census; Monroe Co.
