- Rev. Msgr. Leslie A. Vance born December 3, 1940, went to be with our Lord April 20, 2013, at the age of 72. He was the second child of Francis and Dorothy Vance. He was born and raised in Hondo, TX and graduated from Hondo High School Class of 1959. Before he received his calling to become a priest, Leslie attended St. Mary's University and graduated with a BA in English. He continued at St. Mary's studying law and worked as a clerk for the FBI. Leslie joined the United States Air Force in 1967 and attained the rank of Capt. during the Vietnam era. After the Air Force he joined the seminary and attended the Oblate School of Theology. He studied in Canada at St. Paul's University in Ottawa and the University of Ottawa and received his license and Master of Canon Law Degree. He served internships in the early 1970's at Holy Family Catholic Church and at St. Patrick Catholic Church in San Antonio. He was ordained in Hondo, TX on March 26, 1976 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Leslie was the associate pastor at St. Philip Catholic Church in El Campo, TX from 1975 -1978. He served as Pastor from 1978 to 1981 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rocksprings, TX and in 1981 to 1984 at St. Luke Catholic Church in Loire, TX. He served as Parochial Vicar at St. Matthew Catholic Church in San Antonio in 1984. He was Pastor from 1986 to 1998 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kirby. He was Pastor from 1998 to 2010 at St. Brigid's Catholic Church from where he retired. He was a Judge Advocate for the Tribunal of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Canon Law Society of America and the Knights of Columbus. He joined the community of retired priests at "Casa de Padre" in Leon Springs, TX in 2010.
Leslie is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert L. Vance and Arthur F. Vance. He is survived by his sister, Anna V. Tomey and husband Jim; brothers, Patrick Vance and wife Patricia, Frank Vance Jr. and wife Becky; sister-in-law, Rita G. Vance
