LEWISTOWN ? Longtime Lewistown resident Lucile Euphemia McVey, 98,died of natural causes Monday at Valley Vista Manor, where she hadlived since 1995.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. today at Central Montana MemorialGardens in Lewistown. Creel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Lois Thompson of Billings; three nieces,Martha Alexander of Portland, Ore., Caroline Sankovich of McLean, Va.,and Marion Rosenberg of LaMirada, Calif.; and six great nieces andnephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Henry C. McVey,in 1982; and her sister, Irene Brinkman, in 1991.
Lucile was born March 4, 1906, at the family farm in Fergus County.She was the daughter of John and Martha Quickenden. Her familymoved to the Coffee Creek area when Lucile was one year old, and sheremained in the Lewistown area throughout her life.
Lucile attended the Castle Creek School and graduated in 1925 fromFergus County High. She went on to get her teaching certificate fromWestern Montana College at Dillon and spent 24 years teaching atvarious one-room schools, including Cottonwood Creek, King Ranch, FortMcGinnis, and Skaggs.
Lucile married Henry C. McVey in Thompson Falls on May 18, 1934, andthey lived on the Quickenden's Castle Creek Ranch until 1943. Lucileand Hank enjoyed the outdoors and spent most of their early yearstogether employed as a guide and a cook in Glacier Park. They alsoworked at local dude ranches such as Spotted Bear and Bar X6.
Lucile was very active in several local organizations, including DAR, the Retired Teachers'Association, the Republican Women and the Lewistown Genealogy Society.She was also a regular attendant at the Presbyterian Church.
