  Notes	Genetic evidence suggests he was not the son of Mathew Vance and Ann Jones Acc to Jayce he was the son of Ephraim Vause and Theodosia Hewlings Indian Scout and a Baptist preacher. He was hung for killing a man named Horton, a justifiable killing, as was afterwards shown, had four sons and four daughters who came to Logan early in the century and settled on the waters of Tug River, and who are the progenitors of the Vance family of this county Ancestor of Grace Dotson [1, 4, 5]
