- Mary Enid, as a girl was a tall pretty outdoor type with a remarkableresemblance of her Aunt Iva Mae Vance Stone. A neighbor, KatherineJarvis, remembers Mary having especially beautiful hair. She also saidthat Mary was sad because her father did not approve of her "boy friend",Orville Eddington.
I suppose that Mary's family was the embodiment of the old sayingthat "daughters marry men who are not nearly good enough for them so theycan have grandchildren who are 'cuter' than anyone else's." John andDora always gave much attention to Betty Lee and Bob Eddington, which Isuppose was a way of overcompensating for a lifetime of disdain forOrville. Approximately 1960, Orville and Mary were involved in anautomobile accident in which they both were badly injured and from whichthey have never completely recovered. Mary is extremely religious, aswell as a loyal and loving wife and mother. In her home she has manymementoes and keepsakes from her parents including some very nice basketsmade by John A. Vance.
