DAVID VANCE
David Vance was born in Fredrick County, Virginia in the year 1749 theson of David and Sarah Colville Vance. The older David Vance arrived inVirginia from Ireland, probably arriving with other Scotch-IrishPresbyterians. Other Children born to David and Sarah Colville Vance,besides David who was the eldest, were Anne, Jannett, John, JosephColville Vance (father of early Ohio Governor Joseph Colville Vance),Mary, and Martha (Who married Captain Solomon Vail.) David Married SarahQuimby b. 3 Feb 1757 d. 28 Oct 1846. David Vance died 19 Dec 1816 and wasburied in Kentucky.
David served as a private under Captain William McConnell, his name beinglisted on the payroll of Fayette Militia dated 1782. This unit servedunder Gen. George Rogers Clark, The payroll signed by Daniel Boon
(CL) under the notation "I do certify that the above service waspreformed by my order".
David Vance served with Colonel Robert Patterson's Company which wentfrom Fort Harrod to build a fort at Lexington Kentucky., April 16, 1779.
David Vance served as a private under Colonel Robert Patterson in theBattle of Piqua (1780). Colonel Patterson's Company was attached toBenjamin Logan's Company for this engagement.
Beer's History of Clark County notes that "David Vance was a Kentuckian.
He settled in Madison Township in 1808 or 1809, one mile west of SouthCharlestown, on the farm now owned by James Pringle."
